STYLE TUTORIAL: 1920's Faux Bob & Finger Wave

I am not sure that i have ever told you what i do for work aside from blogging on this little corner of internet paradise i am also a full-time office monkey for an amazing hairdressing company called Maurice Meade they are the biggest brand in Western Australia and i am always picking up new tricks for doing my own vintage inspired styles too! (Perks of the job)

I was lucky enough to be asked to do a little style tutorial in anticipation of The Great Gatsby release yesterday a simple and easy 1920's "do" and since i am definitely not a hairdresser i think its a great way to encourage you to get in and give it a go!

The last video i filmed for Vintage Valley touched on the wave at the front a little more which you can view here but i also threw in a faux bob to jazz it up a little.

If you have any questions please dont hesitiate to ask i will answer them in the comment section!

Well i would have to say my weekend was full on but amazing all the same! I ate far too much banana bread, drank delicious coffee caught up with friends for tiki bar drinks and ended with a bang by spending up at the Vintage Vixens and Vamps market on Sunday. I went by myself because i really wanted to get in and spend some quality time sifting through the racks and even though there were some amazing pieces i would have gladly pulled my poor credit card out for i managed to control myself and only walk out with a few items!

This amazing top was a steal at $15 and i am so in love with the detailing. I will however admit it takes time to actually put on as the loops and buttons are tricky. I was trying not to go cross-eyed while hooking them together (but its worth the effort i would say) the neckline is divine!!

For some reason i am so drawn to yellow clothes...i think it may be because it reminds me of one of the most humbling things a friend ever told me, after asking her if buying a yellow bycicle was a good idea she stated "of course! When i think of you i think of sunshine" its funny how those compliments always seem to stick! Whenever i feel a little dull her comment always pops into my head.

I hope you all had a swell weekend too filled with pastries, giggles and tea!

As promised here is the second outfit from the Voices of 2013 which i wore to the launch party! I of course had a much fancier hair do but as it was rather early this morning when i took these photos you are being forced to look at my boring hair for today! I wish i managed to get more photos of my outfit that night but since i had cake pops hovering in front of my face for most of the night i think it took the glamour away from the look!

I dont have too many bombshell dresses in my exploding wardrobe i tend to gravitate towards bright, playful & printed vintage dresses but it really is an amazing dress i couldn't pass it by! I found this velvet wonder while spending an afternoon at MoMo's (a must to visit) i was sipping on hazelnut coffee and gabbing about fabrics with the lovely owner Beth when i spied it on the (tiny girls) rack. I instantly thought i dont care im going to squeeze my way in if i have to..hold me down and grease me up! To my surprise it fit perfectly and i knew it was a winner for the event!

The only thing missing was a brooch which i had hunted high and low for, i visited a shop while i was in Sydney that was very high priced vintage but the jewellery was to die for! Im guessing its 60's but im not too versed on vintage jewellery era's but all the same its quite cute! (a nice edition to my collection)

Only downfall of a velvet 50's dress....you catch yourself constantly feeling the fabric (i know it sounds weird but it feels so soft) haha.

Well i hope you all have a fab weekend lined up! I am visiting the Vintage Vixens and Vamps event on Sunday so i might see you there if your going!

This amazing dress is what i wore to the Masterclass last weekend at the Voices of 2013. Since i decided to be savvy and only take carry on luggage (this was to prevent me buying up every vintage store in Sydney) i really had to plan my outfits and take exactly what i needed and nothing else. It did however make me sweat a little thinking i was over the weight limit and i had already started mentally deciding if need be what items would have to jump ship and be left behind to lighten the load!

I found this 1950's original at Bluebird Vintage on Cambridge street they only have a small selection of dresses but "oh my" they are carefully selected, in perfect condition and sold with love! The watercolour print and perfect fit sold me and even though it was a little out of my budget i couldnt walk away without it. (sometimes clothes just sing to me)

Another bonus is that it's also extremely comfortable which is great because since we were seated at the masterclass for a few hours it was lovely to relax and really take in the day instead of wondering if your seams are about to rupture in a room full of people (its happened before) sometimes vintage dresses give up on life at the worst times!

I will be uploading my next outfit on Friday (A pretty incredible dress) so keep an eye out!

Voices of 2013 Masterclass and Launch.

During my humble blogging journey i have come across many opportunities that have filled me with such gratitude. I still to this day feel so lucky that my small corner of vintage rambling is read by so many likeminded creative people like you! Since being nominated and announced as a top 25 blogger for Kidspot Voices of 2013 in the Style and Beauty category i have been in a constant state of flushed cheeks and pure joy.

I flew to Sydney and spent the weekend with a group of incredible bloggers and have come home brimming with creative ideas and a notebook filled with furious scratchings that i am putting into motion one at a time!

After appearing to be lost looking for the venue of the masterclass i simply navigated my way by listening out for the flurry of ladies voices coming from a room not too far away! It is actually quite nerve wracking being in a room with so many people you admire and seem to have a creepy amount of knowledge about their lives..conversations were started with "Hi..I know you..well i dont know you but i feel like i do" we were given lots of information and tips from successful bloggers and the lovely Hailey Bartholomew shared her journey into film making and now childrens books it was very emotional but wonderful to hear her talk.

After the masterclass it was off to the after party where i may have hovered over the cake pop stall a little too long....and was turning to face the wall to shove it in my mouth all in one go (classy all the way)

What i loved was meeting bloggers from all categories, parenting, food & lifestyle it was nice to connect with bloggers that were not necessarily all fashion related.

I had such an amazing time met some very inspirational ladies and have made memories that will last with me.

I will be uploading a post with the outfits i wore over the weekend during the week as well.

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend Xx

So over the weekend i decided that i would treat myself to a new vintage dress and drive into Fremantle to visit She Seldom Blushes. They always have an amazing collection of unique dresses and are always so helpful and excited about the clothes which makes buying them even nicer!I came home with this adorable poppy print dress the fabric is so light and its in fantastic condition. Since it was my grandfathers favourite flower i have a small attachment to it already.

The rain also stayed hidden away all weekend which meant i could park dwell for a few hours before seeing The Kooks (which was amazing) it was the first time i had seen them live and i couldnt fault them! it may be the last outdoor concert i can go to for awhile before Winter is in full swing!

I also managed to squeeze in a vintage hair tutorial over the weekend that i will upload on Wednesday something very quick and easy! So keep an eye out!

Hope your week has started swell!

Pastel...

After starting the week still feeling the after effects of the weekend (to which i realise i am far too old to do again..champagne recovery cant be done with a fanta and big breakfast anymore) i decided to make up for my missed day and get stuck into fixing a few dresses i had in my "I'll get there" pile.

This adorable pastel dress originally had long puffed sleeves and removing them has made all the difference! The cute shoulder detail makes it appear as if it was meant to be this way in the first place so im pretty chuffed about that! Now i am on a bit of a roll i might start on the other dresses too..i always have the best intentions attempting to rescue dresses so hopefully i dont have to let any go due to my eager scissors!

I have been a little obsessed with The Troggs and reading THIS today...oh my! It has been the sole reason i have been bursting out in laughter at work! Oops!

I am also going to be filming the next hair how-to video over the weekend! Anything you particularly need some tips on? Happy Wednesday Xx

Tartan...

 photo _MG_0004_zps3a88b007.jpg
It is officially two weeks today that i will be jet setting off to Sydney for a little mini weekend away to meet some amazing bloggers and be a tourist in another town other than my own! Dont you worry i have already sussed out the best places to eat (thank you Instagram) and i am sure the Autumn leaves are at their most spectacular. This mini holiday is exactly what i need, its been a few months of radical changes and i need to get lost on unknow streets, drink amazing coffee and eat way too many pastries!

This little tartan bow tie was used in the Restyle last year, and i still pull it out every now and then. Althought my collection is quite small (i am picky) i prefer ones that are a little smaller as the puffy bow ties are a little too masculine for me! I think it adds a little prep to an outfit without having to go too overboard!

This weekend is going to be filled with rug shopping (fun, fun) i am on the hunt for the perfect chevron rug, hemming and breakfast with the girls at this amazing place! I hope you all have a sun filled inspiring weekend Xx
